Chasing the Mountain Air: My Whirlwind Escape
Leaving behind the hustle of Gurgaon on the night of April 30th, our adventure began with a cozy bus ride courtesy of Laxmi Holidays from Kashmere Gate at 10:00 PM. After a comfortable overnight journey, we were greeted by the crisp morning air of Dharamshala around 9:00 AM the next day.
This wasn’t just another hill station trip—it was my personal escape to discover the spiritual heart of the Himalayas, experience authentic Tibetan culture, and find peace in the mountain air.
My 6-Day Dharamshala Adventure
The Route I Took
| Day | Journey & Stay | My Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Gurgaon to Dharamshala | Night bus from Kashmere Gate, morning arrival |
| Day 2-5 | Thehr Airbnb Base | Manager’s lunch, Bathu ki Ladi attempt, peaceful retreat |
| Day 6 | Kareri Village - Zostel Plus | Village life, nature pool, valley exploration |
| Day 7 | Dharamshala to Gurgaon | Evening bus departure, morning arrival |

Personal Reflections
This journey taught me that sometimes the best experiences come from stepping away from the main tourist trail. Staying in Thehr instead of central Dharamshala gave me:
- Peaceful mornings with mountain views
- Local connections through my manager’s hospitality
- Authentic experiences away from tourist crowds
- Flexibility to explore at my own pace
- Budget savings without compromising on comfort
The contrast between Gurgaon’s urban chaos and Dharamshala’s mountain tranquility was immediate and refreshing. From navigating unpredictable mountain roads to experiencing the warmth of Himalayan hospitality, every moment added to my understanding of what makes mountain travel so special.
This is my personal documentation of a refreshing mountain escape. Read on for detailed day-by-day experiences in each region.
